U.S Embassy Beijing releases Warden Message Urumqi (China) Unrest
July 6, 2009
U.S. Embassy Beijing released the following Warden Message on July
6:
This Warden Message is to inform Americans of reports of unrest in
Urumqi, the capital city of Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region, and
to advise Americans to carefully consider their travel plans to this
area.
The Embassy has received first-hand reports from American citizens
in Urumqi about violent clashes and heavy police presence throughout
the city. U.S. and official Chinese media are also reporting incidents
of violence.
While there are no indications that this violence is directed at U.S.
citizens, the Embassy advises Americans in Xinjiang and especially
in Urumqi to avoid areas where demonstrations and large gatherings
are taking place. U.S. citizens in Urumqi should remain indoors and
avoid unnecessary movement within the city.
Americans with travel plans to Xinjiang are advised to defer travel
at this time.
The U.S. Embassy can be reached 24 hours per day at 86-10-8531-3000.
The addresses and telephone contact information for the American Citizen

Travel Advisory: Mexico
Mexico Update May 20, 2009
The Global Protective Services (GPS) team continues to monitor travel-related information from the World Health Organization, the US Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, and benchmark Cisco’s position against similar organizations. In partnership with Safety, Security & Business Resiliency, Global Travel and Cisco’s Corporate Medical Director, GPS announces the following changes relating to Mexico travel.
| • |
Mexico is reverting to its previous status as a Moderate Risk Destination (MRD) for all CTN-booked travel, with the exception of Ciudad Juarez and Tijuana.
|
| • |
Moderate Risk no longer requires approval from your Vice President, however, travelers will receive an automated travel briefing with the current advisory information and emergency contact numbers and referrals.
|
| • |
Outside of the Americas, travelers do not receive an ATA. They should review Mexico country briefings via the Cisco / ISOS portal.
|
| • |
Due to the security risks still associated with Ciudad Juarez and Tijuana, those destinations will remain Extreme Risk Destinations (ERD), requiring Senior Vice President approval and the GPS Check-in Procedures.
|
